Pacific Rim (2013) - Review

*contains spoilers

One of the most expected movie of this season, "Pacific rim". Many thought it has some connection with Roland emmerich's "Godzilla" (2005). It doesn't have any relation with any movies and it's not an adaptation. This one has a fresh script. But i could see Glimpses of Godzilla in many scenes, the same has been followed in here as well. I do not want to mention them but i'm sure u will notice.

The story begins in the present day in San-Francisco where a Gargantuan monster "Kaiju" unleashes from underwater portal between dimensions in the pacific ocean that destroys the Golden gate bridge and much of the bay side city. As more and more monsters rises, Pan Pacific Defense corps, led by Marshal Stacker Pentecost (Idris elba) comes out with dual-piloted gigantic robots "Jaegers" to fight back. The use of the Jaegers is a convoluted process called Drifting wherein two pilot controls from inside the helmet of the machine, the thoughts inside their heads paired up so that they can seamlessly control the gigantic steel creation together. It may sound confusing but it never does. The Human seem to winning the battle but seven years later everything turns upside down, when the hot-shot pilot "Raleigh" (Charlie hunnam) loses his elder brother "Yancy" (Diego Klattenhoff) in a battle against "Knife head" Kaiju. And then Kaiju's learns to adapt as they improve their skills against Jaegers. Raleigh somehow survives from that blow. Five years later, in 2025, he is involved in the construction work putting up a barrier wall around Hong-Kong which is being claimed failure by the construction workers when a Kaiju in Sydney demolishes the barriers and passes these with ease. He is approached by Marshall to rejoin the team. With only few of the Jaegers remaining before their funding runs out and more Kaiju lying in wait, he needs his best warriors to lead the final do-or-die fight to save the humanity.

Coming to the cast, The Protagonist Charlie hunnam, who certainly has the required fitness and charismatic look, also does his role really well. Noticeable work from the rest of the cast including Prometheus fame, Idris elbaCharlie Day and Burn Gorman plays Scientist "Dr.Newton Geiszler" and his annoying assistant "Gottlieb" respectively. Rinko Kikuchi as Japanese pilot "Mako" whose dialogues are minimized may be because of the fact that her first language is not English. The younger counter part of Mako played by Mana ashida, is nothing short of exceptional. She delivers the perfect emotional dosage in her allocated scene time of about 10 mins.

Visual effects are best utilized in 3D. Action sequences throws up some "Transformers" kind of look, the ultimate showdown under the water makes it even worse. Background scores were pulsating, not to mention funny as well. The film starts with a decent pace and gains momentum in the middle part when the Jaegers and Kaijus take part in a brutal combat. The Screenplay maintains well till it reaches the last portion, which spoils the whole movie. Unnecessary awkward humors and sentiments were placed and those last 30 mins was too predictable which was a huge disappointment and the ending was not up to the mark.
Guillermo Del toro comes up with something new but eventually fails to attract the audience.
It was indeed a good attempt.

Worth a watch.

People who haven't seen the film yet, Go without any expectations, you will be entertained.

"Amazing Spider-Man 2" First look images

We're about a week away from seeing any sort of footage from The Amazing Spider Man 2, because we know that Mark webb will be showing off some crazy fun scenes at next week's Comic-Con.

Earlier this week i saw a Spidey-centric cover for Entertainment weekly's Comic-Con issue. And that very same issue contains some of the sequel's new images, including Andrew Garfield as a wall-crawly Peter Parker, a look at his girl-squeeze Emma Stone, Paul Giamatti's angry truck-driving Rhino, and Jamie Foxx's Electro - who appears as a pre-and-post electrical catastrophe, a mega nerd who's been crushed one too many times and turns into a lethal badass. I'm totally down with that!

Take a look for yourself:

Jamie Foxx as "Electro" - The E is Silent ;)

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens on May 2, 2014.

Singam 2 (2013) ~ Review

He could beat the crap out of dozen men to hell with some funny looking ferocious blows.

He will still be loved by 2 attractive girls shamelessly at the same time, even after he slaps them with no mercy.

He can cross state territories and reach there well before a matter of conversation could get over.

Being an ordinary deputy commissioner of police, he has the power to implement new rules out of nowhere.

He has the brain to solve mysterious quests even a well experienced detective will find difficult to handle.

He has an extra ordinary eyesight which could capture all the illegal activities and spot the baddies in the town in a single sight.

He can track down villains at any point, anywhere having all India's unimaginable-advanced tech in his pocket.

And here comes the most hilarious part,

He can exactly guess the lip movement of an antagonist when he's yards away :D

For more info, watch Singam 2.
(Only cop in the world with supernatural powers)
Durai Singam: A Hypocrite Indian Police!

Yet again Director Hari's usual sudden scene change irks grooving into poor songs in between. He keeps his usual pacy screenplay weak. 1st half was quite intriguing but the later half is just the opposite. Didn't have a proper ending as well. Suriya alone carries the whole 165 mins, running all over tuticorin in the name of Justice, Kicking asses of goons in the power packed action sequences and providing cacophonous lengthy dialogues without taking a breathe. There's hardly any noticeable contribution from the rest of the cast. In fact, most characters don't seem to have any purpose at all. Songs are atrocious, especially the last one and the background score is not effective as it was in the prequel. Credits to the man behind the camera who really did a great job, adding a gaming look to the stunt and chase features.
I have never seen an International kingpin who hoots like a gorilla, in the ultimate dual with the Protagonist for no reason! I'm sure that he must have thought his character was King kong (Instead of some Michael kong*)

My personal & humble opinion:
Singam 1 >>>> Singam 2
This flick is strictly for those few ardent Surya fans. Limited to South-Indian family audiences and to the so called 'logicless masala movie' lovers. Others can watch only for Santhanam.

@Director Hari: Don't ever give us such a lame movie and fool the audiences hereafter. Please switch on to a new genre.

#Singam2: Too much flaws ruined the movie, a total disappointment :/ Nevertheless a good entertainer :)

Man of Steel (2013) - Review

*contains spoilers

Here comes the much awaited movie of the year, Superman part.??
Oh sorry, it’s “Man of steel” :P
I’ve been going through the reviews of the critics for a while before posting mine.
Hmmm… Surely there’re mixed reviews for this one too and the audiences who haven’t got the time to see the film yet, have no idea and are in a state of dilemma! Even some of the guys whom I saw the movie with, started claiming the movie is just another Superman movie with Michael bay’s effect.
For you ludicrous guys, my middle finger salutes.
Michael bay never did a reasonable plot or action sequences in the "
Transformers" so there is no point in comparing Man of Steel with Transformers or any other shit.
Everybody’s anticipation rose before the premiere when the trailer was released and we hoped the best from Zack Snyder and Crew. Well, i have to say that he didn't disappoint us.

First 20 minutes of the story takes place in Krypton wherein Lara Lor-Van (Ayelet Zurer) and her husband Jor-El (Russell Crowe) have birthed their son naturally, in violation of the basic laws of  the planet, where babies are to be bred through genetic engineering with a planetary 'Codex' that imprints just what a person's place in life is to be (leader, Scientist, General etc). Simultaneously krypton's core is collapsing, the planet's race facing certain extinction. In the midst of clashing with General Zod (Michael Shannon), who has decided to lead a coup against kryptonians, Jor-El transports his newborn son to earth and is been killed by Zod in the battle. Then Zod orders to shoot the spaceship however his orders are suddenly stopped when the Krypton security ships appear.
For punishment, General Zod and his followers are banished to The Phantom Zone, causing Zod to lash out that even though their planet will soon be gone, the leaders will not grant him and his followers a quick death. He also swears to Lara (who is present), that he will find her son. The space vessel crash-lands in Kansas. Adopted by a kindly farming couple, Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner) and Martha Kent (Diane lane). From there the story moves on....

In different hands, this new telling of Superman's beginnings might have reminded of the 1978 original, the 1980 sequel, and thew "Smallville" television series all rolled into one, but Writer David S.Goyer tweaks it just enough so that it seems relatively fresh. Where he and Director Zack Snyder hit a snag in the plot's non-linear structure, the constant criss-crossing between past and present giving the proceedings a new but a disjoint feel that keeps some of  the viewers from properly identifying with the characters and becoming more involved in their conflicts. Similarly, Amir Mokri (Cinematographer) aimed a darker layout similar to that of “The Dark Knight” and gave a new look to the visuals, unfortunately that didn't help much.

One of the things that concerned me the most is, like all the other films, here too the protagonist is bullied at the school.
Zack Snyder & David S.Goyer puts up the scientific terms like gravitational force and also the reason for his (Clark kent/Kal-El/Superman's) abnormal power well, which most superhero films fail to do. The last 45 minutes takes the film in full pace with action packed sequences and goes frenetic resulting a total destruction of Metropolis where General Zod turns wild and wants to seek revenge against Superman by Killing all humans one-by-one and ending human race. Superman somehow stops him at the end.

Still, audiences kept debating, why Superman let so many people die? Goyer answers this question.
He said "One of the things we were hoping to depict is that Superman is not a god. We say he's a god-like figure but he's not omnipotent. Even in the comic books he cannot save everyone. I think people die [in Metropolis]. Clearly hundreds if not thousands of people have died while the gravity machines are going off. There were probably even people who died in Smallville.

When you're dealing with a threat like this, there will be collateral damage. This is something that hadn't been depicted in comic book films, [but] is what it would be like if these powerful figures did clash, if The Hulk and Thor fought, people would probably die. Particularly in this case where Zod and the Kryptonians really don't care if people die. I think people died and I'm sure that upsets some people."

Background music score by Hans Zimmer lives pulse-pounding up to the picture’s epic girth. Visual effects, too, are also nothing short of fabulous but we could well find a difference between reality and CG’s at some scenes. Coming to individual performances, Henry Cavill was masculine and adapted himself to the latest version instead of being a old boyish scout, Russell Crowe’s appearance in the screen boosted up the scenes and , he did a perfect father/Kryptonian. Michael Shannon’s role as General Zod was not much intriguing, who seem to be a usual powerful villain. Other than that there’s no remarkable performances, even from the four-time Academy award nominated Amy Adams.

Finally, all the plaudits belong to Zack Snyder for creating such an Epic Masterpiece.
This is certainly not the Best Super hero movie but obviously the best Superman movie ever made.
Must watch.

Jamie Foxx reveals the voice he's been using for Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Jamie foxx began his meteoric ascent to Hollywood bigwig status as a stand up comedian in the late 80's (yep, despite his youthful good looks, he is that old). So, unsurprisingly, Foxx soon had the crowd eating out his hands when he appeared recently on the Tonight show with Jay Leno. Even before the jokes started, he had some pretty good material: just the picture of him sporting a nerdy comb over in his role in The Amazing Spider-Man 2,
Got a big belly laugh from the crowd. you can see why from the image below!

Foxx describes how he developed Maxwell Dillon's distinctive hairdo:

"I play Max Dillon, and this is me before i turn into the villain. My [real] sister is my hairstylist and she created the Django look, Ray Charles and things like that. So, i told her that, when i'm the nerd guy, i want to be the first black man with a comb over. I told her make me look like i would look if i never made it. I had a jheri curl and things i didn't go right, so i jimmy mack it."

But easily the best part of his appearance on the show? His very, very creepy impression of himself doing the Electro voice. If you want to skip straight to it, go to 1:33 on the video below - that said, it's well worth watching the whole interview.

What do you think of his Electro voice - do you think he does the super villain justice or is it not spine-chilling enough for a man who survived being struck by lightning?
Drop me a line below.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 debuts on May 2, 2014.
